Ian Lin is the youngest member of the RI Philharmonic Youth Symphony Orchestra and has been studying violin with Daniela Rubinstein for 2 years at the RI Philharmonic Music School. In this video, Ian plays the first movement from Charles-Auguste de Bériot’s Violin Concerto No.9 in A Minor.


Gabriel Johnson is ten years old and a student at the St. Pius V. Catholic School in Providence. Gabe’s love for music began with his grandmother, Nora Almond. She often sat him on her lap when she played the piano. Having developed a strong desire for the piano, Gabe continued his musical journey at the Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School in the Music Together program.

At age 2.5 years, Gabe felt in love with the piano. He auditioned for the Suzuki Piano program with Kelly House, and was attentive and focused during his audition. Kelly knew Gabe had a gift and a strong desire for music education.

At age six, Gabe composed his first music piece called Bright Light, which he performed at one of the RI Philharmonic Music School performance hours. Gabe loves music and hopes to compose more music that will bring peace to the world. Gabe also sings with the Rhode Island Children’s Chorus.

In this video, Gabriel plays an original composition entitled Eye of the Storm, which he composed in response to the death of George Floyd.
