#RIPhilPlays: Orchestra Musician Videos

Craig McNutt is Principal Timpanist of the Rhode Island Philharmonic. He also serves as timpanist with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, and is on the music faculty at Wellesley College. In this video, Craig plays William Kraft’s Homage (to Gustav Mahler) from Images for Solo Timpani.

Kevin Owen is Principal Horn of the Rhode Island Philharmonic, the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, the Boston Philharmonic and the Boston Landmarks Orchestra. He also arranges music for RIPO’s Link Up Concert Series. In this video, Kevin plays his original composition entitled Berserk Unit.

Trombonist Greg Spiridopoulos is Principal Trombone of the RI Philharmonic, Albany Symphony Orchestra, Glimmerglass Festival Orchestra, Second Trombone of the Portland Symphony Orchestra, and is a member of the Empire Brass Quintet. He is also Associate Professor of Trombone at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. In this video, Greg plays Thom Ritter George’s Aria and Dance.

Susan Thomas has been Principal Flute with the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra for more than 20 years. She is also a Senior Lecturer in Music at the University of Rhode Island, where she teaches flute, chamber music and pedagogy. She is accompanied by Nasser Ashraf on the piano, who studied at the State University of New York at Purchase and is currently Organist and Choir Director at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. In this video, Susan plays Gluck’s “Minuet and Dance of the Blessed Spirits.”
